The first image is a painting of my recently deceased companion of many years - George. When observing his small dead form I was struck by the peacefulness and the liminal appearance of sleeping. It occured to me to do paintings of other sleeping dogs. In doing so I am gesturing to their fleeting nature of animal life in comparison to human life and to the anxiety or sense of 'prepared mourning' that is always present in living with companion animals (at least it is for me)!
